Sweet Maddies
Consumer: From Cookies to Community
Sweet Maddie’s is a family-run gourmet cookie dough business founded by Michelle and Craig Bryan. After COVID-19 disrupted their plans for a made-to-order bakery and dessert lounge, the Bryan family shifted to a product they were already making. A clean-label, freezer-to-oven cookie dough made with real ingredients. Today, Sweet Maddie’s is expanding across retail, food service, and direct-to-consumer channels.
As the brand grew, Sweet Maddie’s faced the challenge of turning a strong product and growing retail presence into greater brand awareness and lasting customer loyalty. The brand wanted to reach new audiences and better communicate its story and how Sweet Maddie’s stands out against its competitors.
Building the Sweet Maddie’s Story
SOC3 developed a strategic social media and community growth plan designed to make Sweet Maddie’s more than a product and bring the brand to the community. The strategy centered on what makes Sweet Maddie’s one-of-a-kind: family, connection, clean ingredients, and the joy of baking at home.
The team recommended expanding Sweet Maddie’s social media content and outlined content ideas, including founder family content, “Who is Maddie’s” features, customer testimonials, clean-ingredient education, and DMV community engagement. In addition, SOC3 identified lifestyle content that Sweet Maddie’s could capitalize on and integrate into their social media channels, such as baking rituals, self-care, dorm baking, entertaining, wine and cookie pairings, and seasonal content. These opportunities meet consumers where they are and connect the product to everyday life.
Turning Customers into Community
SOC3 proposed strategies for customers to take part in the Sweet Maddie’s story, including a user-generated content campaign which would invite customers to share their own personal moments with Sweet Maddie’s. Generated content such as baking the product at home, sharing a cookie with a friend, recipe hacks, flavor competitions, or seasonal flavors was proposed to encourage greater participation and social engagement.
Beyond digital channels, the strategy extended into the community through channels such as farmers’ market sampling, retail partnerships, corporate party sets, and a potential food truck activation. SOC3 saw the opportunity to turn product discovery into direct customer interaction while strengthening Sweet Maddie’s presence in the DMV.
Through the work with Sweet Maddie’s, SOC3 helped translate a compelling family business story into a communications strategy built around discovery, connection, and community. SOC3 gave the brand a framework to build on all while staying rooted in what makes Sweet Maddie’s unique.
